Well let me say this - You are kind of close to say that you do not believe in heaven or hell and I do not want you to do that!!! Please don't - ReallyIn the past I would argue with Atheist in America that did not believe in GOD - Heaven or Hell and they basically say that Satan is a good guy... They are members of the Church Of Satan....In Islam to deny Heaven or Hell is Kufer (disbelief)...The main reason why I became Muslim is that it confirmed things I believed before like heaven, hell, good VS evil etc. and it disagreed things like Shirk and creating things from your own mind etc.You can be happy here with believing in heaven and hell and stayings away from sins to the best of your ability....Just remember the life of this world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever because WE Muslims seek a better life in the hereafter...this is nothing that you have not heard before and of course we have freedom to choose which path to take in this life....you said "But I find the path painful. It's not easy or fun, it's worrying and draining."Just leave it to Allah and practice your DEEN....

I don't believe in heaven and hell. But I don't believe Satan is a good guy either. Actually that would be a paradox, because, er.... I don't believe in Satan!

I have a question: what about people who do believe, but in other religions, like zoroastrians or hindus ? Are they also going to hell ? Because they think they're going to heaven and you're going to hell.

Why do you do affirmative sentences like "Life is a prison for believers and a paradise for disbelievers", like you are qualified to teach on universal things?

Actually, if you look around, it can be quite the contrary. You find comfort in religion, having someone telling you what to do, even having it written in minutes details, what to eat, what to wear..., not having to think or question any of these things.

The problem is, sometimes, maybe you're "told" (or think you're told) to do something, and that thing is wrong. For example, putting barriers between humans and prohibiting marriage between two people from different religions. Or chopping hands...

It's not paradise for disbelievers either. It's life. And life is hard for everyone, full of difficult choices, things to think about in order to do the right thing.

The Pope can be wrong. The Imam can be wrong. The good people are the ones who face the questions and try to decide what to do, for themselves. And that is harder than to just follow a set of pre-made rules. We are all given a brain to question things, so it's a sin to abdicate to use it. A true sin.

Would you like me to forward that to him? :)

I know it's in our "inbox", so that was intended for the person who wrote the letter, if he ever reads this blog... Do you think a person can believe "partly", like believe in God, but not in heaven or hell or organized religions and clerics?

I don't believe in the gymnastics of religions, the sequence of bowings and standing up (since I was in catholic church), the prohibited foods and dresses, etc, and people who believe they are holy because they do all these things and grow a beard, while doing horrible things, stealing, cheating, lying, if not worse, or thinking that people from other religions are less worthy. I believe there are far more important things to be a good human being to others than how one prays and how often.

- You can't pick and choose. If you believe in God and that he sent you a book, Quraan, Bible or Torah, then you bleive in whatever is in this book, including heaven and hell. You can, however, have your own interpretation of what heaven and hell mean. Some think it is physically true and others think it's all figurative.

- The gymnastics of religions? Well, some people find absolute comfort in an hour of yoga, others find it in prayer. I used to enjoy the bowing and bending of prayer more than I do now. It is an undscribable feeling of peace. Simply serene.

Those who bow and bend, cover up, grow their beard, etc but cheat and steal etc for me are not religous. If religion doesn't make them any better, they have nothing to do with this religion.
Good examples are in people around me. There are so many of them but I know that usually bad examples are more evident.
